HJO Jazz Educational Outreach at Bloomington High School this Thursday!

Friends of HJO,

This Thursday, HJO will be hosting a special event titled History of Jazz at Bloomington High School (BHS). The even is part of a series for our new Jazz Educational Outreach program. BNS is the first of many educational and student facilities in which we will host such performances. More venue announcements to come!

Members of HJO will work personally with the students of BHS’s jazz program (directed by our very own Luciano Rosado) and given a masterclass on jazz technique, improv, and professionalism. For the highlight of the event (7:00 pm and open to the public), students will also be given an opportunity to showcase their talents as an ensemble as well as with HJO itself. Their performance will be followed by the HJO History of Jazz concert which will traverse from its beginnings to the modern era. Irregardless of the period in which the style was performed, it can be said that the jazz genre itself is timeless and influences our music culture even to this day (we wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t popular).

Our History of Jazz concerts are made possible through a Mirza Arts and Culture Grant from the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation. THe foundation has our sincere thanks for their generosity and support of the arts in Bloomington/Normal.

We also wish to thank Bloomington High School and their wonderful students for inviting us to their facility.
